Laboratoria+:
Building and EdTech Platform

EdTech l Design l Latam 🌏

Laboratoria+ is a tech education company focused on opening doors in the industry for women in Latin America. They build on the legacy of their predecessor, Laboratoria, but whereas the latter is focused on entry level tech education, Laboratoria+ doubles down on this premise to help women reach leadership roles in the industry.

The Brief

After the launch of Laboratoria+, the next milestone was underway. They needed a central hub for virtual courses, meetings and mentoring sessions. Thus Plataforma L+ was born.

The Challenge

As the Lead UX/UI Designer, my primary responsibility was to build the foundational structure of this e-learning hub, ensuring a seamless user experience, while adhering to the guidelines and visual cohesiveness achieved in the previous stage. Additionally, I had to consider the limitations of low-code/no-code technology.

STEP 1

Introduction

Laboratoria+'s e-learning platform is dedicated to providing tools, pathways, and features to help students advance their career paths at their own pace. This subscription-based model enables students to explore and benefit from all the features that L+ offers to enhance their careers in tech.

The L+ team consistently seeks tools and feedback to identify opportunities to guide students and bring clarity to their next career paths. Throughout 2023, I designed the interface of their e-learning platform. I also created features aimed at providing clarity and accountability to users, as they build their professional skill paths.

Here's a brief recap of some of their cool features:

FEATURES

Matchmaking Processes

One of Laboratoria+’s key utilities  is the ability to connect with another female in the tech industries in LATAM. We worked on designing professional connection flows among women starting with a simple quiz:

Student-to-Student

The 'Directory' is a feature created to connect students with women in similar positions, navigating similar issues. This was the result of this collaboration:

Student-to-Mentor

The 'Mentor Finder' is a feature created to recommend mentors who will help the student navigate her professional obstacles and grow. In this case, it was crucial to organise the mentors’ information correctly, to make the user’s decision-making process as seamless and accurate as possible.

FEATURES

Quiz to identify strengths and areas of improvement for each student

The Professional Quiz is the most recent project I have collaborated on with Laboratoria+. I was in charge of designing a questionnaire flow that identifies the level of each student in 5 professional competencies and proposes a roadmap for them to upskill..

The design kept the structure of the previous questionnaires, as we already knew they were working.

The results pages to these quizzes are divided into two sections:

First, an area to inform the student of the current level in each skill.
Second, an area that helps the student hold herself accountable for her shortcomings and actively plan out how to better herself in her areas of improvement.

Building a User Interface Kit

Last but not least, as we continued creating elements for the platform, new components emerged, and since the product is never finished, it was necessary to expand, iterate, and maintain Laboratoria's style guide.

This is a view of the most updated version of this document:

"I worked with Malu in the development of the UX/UI design of the Laboratoria+ digital platform for more than a year.
During this period of time she has shown autonomy and great curiosity to explore a variety of options in the pursuit of offering a high quality product to our users. I strongly recommend her profile and expertise to supplement a tech team!'“.
